World Cup Entertainment - Other Things to Do.
Since only around 35% of the tickets were available on the free market, many soccer enthusiasts won't be able to attend a match in one of the 12 World Cup stadiums. Nevertheless, the desire to experience the special atmosphere of a soccer World Cup will lead thousands and thousands of people to Germany this summer. Especially English football fans are known to travel to the venues of international matches even if they didn’t manage to get a ticket.
What can you do now with all these thousands of people? Germany is the country of beer and therefore it might not be a good idea to let the fans drink without offering them opportunities to watch the matches. So FIFA and Infront, the holder of the broadcasting rights, have decided to install so called Fanfests in all of the World Cup cities. Any innkeeper is allowed to show the matches in his or her pub as long as he or she does not take any entrance fees. This will turn Germany into a huge beer garden during the World Cup and hopefully will help to appease the supporters of teams that lose their World Cup matches.
Some cities show up with really creative ideas: In Berlin, adidas built a midget brother of the Berlin Olympiastadion on the huge meadow right in front of the "Reichstag", the German parliament. With a capacity of 10,000 people and big screens where the matches are shown it beautifully creates soccer stadium atmosphere.
In Frankfurt the fanfest will be on the Main river. Yes, it is on the river itself, or to be precise the screen itself will be found on a mounted boat in the middle of the river. So people can sit on the banks of Main and enjoy the World Cup easily. In Dortmund, the organisators of the World Cup leased parts of the Westfallenhalle, a huge fair building and offer fans free accomodation including the chance to watch the matches.
